Creative Collision in Oberlin, Kansas
Restoration repairs are a lot different than collision repair. The vehicles are older model years so the parts are A/M or used. A complete restoration means redoing the whole vehicle, inside and out, top to bottom.
Some of the panels contain rust so they require a patch panel to be inserted. This process involves cutting the damaged area out and replacing it with a patch panel. Welding this in and grinding down the weld to make an unnoticeable seam.
When replacing a complete part on a restoration there is the chance that the new part will not fit correctly. If this occurs then the tech will cut a slit to either add length or shorten the new panel. That slit will be welded shut and again made unnoticeable. Not all parts have to be replaced but require repair. When all new panels have been fitted they will be taken back off the vehicle and sent to the painter.Once the body of the vehicle is ready, it will be sent to the painter for a new coat of paint. Then the whole vehicle is reassembled. If it is a complete restoration the interior will also be redone.
