Creative Collision in Oberlin, Kansas
When the body technician has completed the repairs or replaced the new parts your vehicle is now ready for the next process. A new coat of paint on the repaired or new panel(s). The paint technician will prepare the surface of all the parts to be painted. Some panels will get a full coat of paint and the adjacent panels with no damage will get a partial. This is called blending on the adjacent panels. Blending a panel assures you that you will not be able to see where the new panel(s) has been replaced or where a panel(s) has been repaired.
When all panels have been prepared by sanding them the paint technician than moves the vehicle into the paint booth. It is covered with plastic and all exposed jams are taped to prevent overspray. The panels to receive new paint are wiped down to remove all sanding dust. Depending on the paint code of your vehicle there are 2-4 layers of material to be sprayed on, with a flash time in between each layer.
When all layers have been sprayed it needs to dry. After the allotted time the technician removes all plastic and tape. He looks for imperfections such as dirt, runs, etc. and at this time if any are seen he will remove them. This provides a smooth and shiny surface on the newly painted panels.
Your vehicle is now ready to go back to the body technician for completion of the job.
